Mal Emery - the Australian Dan Kennedy

Mal started on his entreprenuerial career at the ripe age of 22 when he decided he was going to get into the business of Hardware.  Now that is not computer hardware but what we call hardware here in Australia and according to Wikipedia it is the same in the USA.  Yep, we are talking tools, locks, plumbing and all that other stuff that is sold in a hardware store.

The first thing Mal did was go and find someone who was an expert in the hardware field and learn from them.  A technique that I personally think is always a good thing to do.

The other masterful thing Mal did was sell out before all of the big corporate hardware stores came through a took over the industry.

Over the next 20 years Mal managed to buy and sell 16 different businesses.  One of them being a cute little run down cafe that he bought for $30,000 and no more than 5 months later managed to sell for $230,000 as well as a lunch bar he bought for $145,000 and sold for $385,000 only 18 months later.

Along the way Mal decided to study under Dan Kennedy who taught him the art of Direct Marketing.  See he formulated a list, which covered what he considered represented the perfect business.  A pretty common technique with Self Development principles.  Write down what is you want so you can grab it when it comes along.
